Minutes February 2006

Meeting opened at 7:01 PM. Introductions went all around. The minutes were read, changed, and voted as approved after making the needed amendment.

Treasurer’s Report:

Savings: n/a

Checking: $1,293.85

Old Business: The source of the minutes change was about who was going to be President Pro Tem in Bob's abs cense. The minutes read that Dewey would be, but in reality Jim Barner (KØWWV) is the President Pro Tem, since he's the Vice President.

New Business: As mentioned at the last meeting, five Hickman students were going to take their ham exams and get their licenses. Four of the five passed. Because of their age as teenagers, the club suggested and voted to offer them free membership until their 18th birthdays. After some discussion, the club also offered free membership to its current teen members (Nathan, KCØLCS and Andrew, WØAPT). To summarize, the club has voted to offer free membership to any teens under 18 who wish to join.

Hamfest update. Memphis Amateur Electronics has let the club know that they will be back at the 2006 hamfest, and they have reserved 6 tables so far. No word yet on any other vendors that will be attending. Last month at the meeting, it was suggested that the nearby day care by the Optimist Club could be used for a forum location. However, after talking with the day care, that will not be possible. It was discussed that the Optimist Club conference room could be used for forums and testing. This room has a capacity of 30-40 people, so it would be a little tight but doable. The Optimist Club storeroom was brought up as a place for VE testing. Here is a possible schedule of events at the hamfest this year: repeater council would be 10:30-11:30 in the conference room, VE testing would be 11-noon in the storeroom, and the MARS council would be from 11-2 in the conference room.

Mac's repeater (146.610, PL 127.3) will listed on hamfest flyers as a backup, in case the .76 machine goes down or has problems.

This year's hamfest has not yet been listed on the ARRL website, so that will be looked into soon.

Bill (NØAXZ) brought to the club's attention that the membership list on the website needs to be updated. It goes back to 2000, and only as recent as 2002. This brought up the discussion of non-paying memberships, and the club voted that all members who had not paid for 2 years would be cut from the membership list. It was suggested that a tear-off sheet would be sent to those people, offering a chance for renewing their membership. At any rate, it is club consensus that any member who has not paid their dues for 2 or more years will be cut from membership.

Speaking of membership, we have a new member in the club! His name is Dwain Lawhon, and his callsign is KØLOA. Congrats to Dwain for joining the club!

We're also losing a member from the area. Bob (WØBUX) is leaving Missouri to live in England. His last meeting will be here in March, so be sure to say wish him well and thank him for all he's done for the club.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:53 PM. Afterward, Dewey gave a great presentation on how to make and send traffic using a radiogram. Very informative.

Well, guess that's all for now. Hope to see everyone at the next meeting!

73's, Nathan KCØLCS
