APRIL MINUTES

Savings: $2,238.77

Checking: $1,902.34

Meeting opened at 7 PM.

Introductions went all around. The minutes were read, amended, and approved after amendment (it sounded like Marshall is Doug’s wife from Memphis Amateur Electronics, but that is incorrect; three locations are not needed for the Boy Scouts’ radio class, only one; and the savings and checking amounts were reversed in order from what they should be).

Old Business:

1.) The ham club station cleanup was March 31st. Dave & Dewey attended; thanks to them for their help making the place look better.

2) Dewey mentioned a table at the station that needs some new legs, and the club decided that Dewey should check either the price for table legs or for a new table.

3) There were 13 people at the March testing session; 6 got their Tech licenses, 5 got their General, and 1 got the Extra upgrade. More people will be ready for testing next month.

4) The Missouri QSO party was held on April 7th-8th. A few members from our club participated using the club callsign, and they got a total of 83 contacts. Of those contacts, quite a few were from DX locations including Hawaii, Bermuda, the Caribbean, and also European countries.

5) Don Moore has put in new lighting fixtures at the club station, so it should be much easier to see there now. Thanks to all of those who have been working on making the club station cleaner, neater, and better looking.

6) The club has reserved its annual spot at Rock Bridge State Park for Field Day this year. The dates are June 23rd-24th.

7) Jim (WYØB) and Earle (KFØGE) have agreed to do the Boy Scout radio merit badge program coming up on July 27th.

8) Details on the hamfest are still coming together. Doug from Memphis Amateur Electronics will be coming, and as of yet they are our only main vendor. Daniel (KCØUTW) has given some thoughts on prizes for this year, such as a range bag and other gifts from Midway USA. Also, the club will bebuying an HT and mobile unit to give away as door prizes. Anyone with ideas or suggestions on an HT/mobile model to buy for this year can contact Daniel. The hamfestwill be held on August 18th, 8 AM at the Ashland Optimist Club building. It will be announced in QST, CQ, and World Radio magazines.

New Business:

1) There is going to be a SEMA-related emergency exercise on earthquakes coming up. Dale would like to do a simulated test around that same time, June 16th. It would be a good way to test how prepared we would be if an earthquake was to occur somewhere in the area, and how we would respond in that emergency.

2) The club has officially changed its website address. It is now www.k0si.net and is up and running.

3) Cory (KCØYNS) is planning on having a club barbeque party at his house on June 16th. It will be a family event, just a time of fellowship and enjoying good food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, and chips. Meat will be provided, but you will have to bring covered dishes and items such as that. Be sure to come on June 16th and have a great time!

4) Three new members have been voted into the club. They are Dale Whitman (KDØADG), Eric Clark (KDØADF), and Les Heitman (ACØHD). Congratulations to these men on joining!

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 PM. Afterward, John (KCØHSB), gave a DVD presentation on the Handi-Ham organization (an organization to help disabled people get into ham radio). It was very interesting and informative.

That’s all for this month, and hope to see everyone at the May meeting!

73’s,

Nathan
