EmComm Level 1 Course

EmComm Level 1 Course

Postby km0r » Wed Mar 10, 2010 3:14 pm

Dale and I were able to get together last week and discuss putting together the EMCOMM Level 1 course in the coming weeks. After looking at schedules and upcoming events, we scheduled the classes to start April 1st, (no foolin’!) and then holding them on successive Thursday evenings. Our plan is to hold class each Thursday through April and have our test session on Thursday May 6th.

In selecting Thursday, hopefully we’ve avoided most previously scheduled meetings, church etc.

Class times are 630pm to 830 pm.

We have a few offers for locations, one on 63 South of Columbia and another on the West side, right off I70. At the CMRA meeting last night, we had another offer from a location on Vandiver which we’ll be investigating, and the site looks promising.

Given these scheduled dates and times, please let us know if you would like to register for the class. We will be limiting the class size to 15 participants.

If you register you will be responsible for the cost of your book, which we will order for you (so we get a discount from the ARRL) and there will be a test fee at the end of the class. The book will cost between $15 and $16 (these books are $20, plus shipping, if you order direct from the ARRL), the exam fee is the same cost as an FCC license exam, $15. Your total cost for the course and exam should be right around to $30.

If you have taken the Level 1 course prior, your certification is still valid. Those who have not taken the Level 1 course before are preferred participants. If we have seats remaining we will be glad to have previous attendees return. This gives our new folks the chance to attend and learn too.

If you choose to attend, we will request you pay for your book up front. Exam fees will be collected on the date of our exam, May 6th. There WILL be homework, and you will be expected to complete assignments for discussion in class. We will provide some instruction in class and answer questions along with discussing what we’ve learned from the previous weeks activities, in other words, we expect you to not only attend class but participate! You’ll get more from the class this way :)

If you have any questions regarding the class, please contact either Dale – AE0S or myself. We’ll be glad to answer your questions!

Just a reminder, classes start next week! Our preferred location has fallen through, so... we are holding the class at Job Point. The Job Point building is located at the corner of Vandiver and Nelwood Drive.

If you are interested, please email me soon to reserve your seat in the class, we only have 15 seats available. Final cost on the books is $15 and the test fee is still $15 too. The book fee is due the first evening of class and the test fee will be collected on May 6th, just prior to giving the tests.

I have books already in hand, if you want yours early, you are welcome to pick it up from my office. Please bring your $15 to pay for your book when you plan to pick it up.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
